In a public vote which was dominated by the fear, the Prince would leave the country if the citizens would not agree to his constitutional proposal the Liechtenstein citizens accepted his new constitution. Since then the Prince has the right to overrule all three state branches (legislative, executive, judiciary).
After the vote these critical groups decided to continue their engagement for democracy. In 2009 the different groups pooled their resources and formed the new organisation called Democratic Movement Liechtenstein.
The organisation fights for more democracy in Liechtenstein. It is political and secular. The organisation supports the strengthening of the citizen’s rights, the democratic institutions, the rule of law and the political responsibility. It promotes democracy and objective political discussion.
This goal shall be achieved by public relations and political actions.
